Road to Shangri-La : Edition II

Last year we rode from Kathmandu to Mustang. This November, we ride to Manang — the high altitude district in the rain-shadow of the Annapurna range. Joined by artists and riders straight off the tents of Nepal Inked, it's the ultimate charity adventure for any motorbike enthusiast.

Why Join This Ride?

Ride Into the Manang Bowl Chame to Manang is a climb into a different Nepal — a rain-shadow valley over 3,500m, ringed by Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and the Chulu peaks. Gravel, single-lane switchbacks, and a stop at Nepal's biggest apple farm along the way.

Ink, Metal, and the Open Road This edition rides straight out of Nepal Inked — the outdoor tattoo festival that's been bringing artists into Nepal's landscapes since 2013. Expect ink, amps, and a convoy that looks nothing like a typical tour group.

A Village We Already Know MetalForNepal has been working in Manang district for years — this ride isn't the first time we've shown up. Chame, Pisang, Khangsar and the villages along this route aren't strangers to us, and this convoy is another reason to be there.

Built on Edition I Fifteen riders in 2025. Kathmandu to Mustang. A stop at Nalanda Buddhist School in Tukuche that turned a road trip into a mission. Edition II is the same idea, further up the valley.

The Route, Day by Day.

Kathmandu Start (Days 1-3)

Day 1 - 16th Nov - Arrival

Fly to Kathmandu, check in , briefings.

Day 2 - 17th Nov - Kathmandu → Pokhara ~ 200kms

7-8 hours out of the valley and down to lakeside. Overnight in Pokhara

Day 3 - 18th Nov - Pokhara Valley → Rupakot :

Morning ride around the Pokhara valley, then up to Rupakot Resort for the night - last stop before the group ride begins.

All Riders (Days 4–8)

Day 4 - 19th Nov - Rupakot → Chame ~130kms, 2700m

Semi off-road, single-lane, uphill This is where the two groups become one. Nepal Inked riders join here. First real climb of the trip.

Day 5 - 20th Nov - Chame → Manang Village ~32kms, 3,500m

Gravel, semi off-road Fuel stop at Bhratang Apple Farm — Nepal's largest apple orchard, fresh cider included. Then on to Gangapurna Lake (the glacial "Green Lake" beneath Gangapurna's ice wall) and Chindi Tal, the "Blue Lake" above upper Manang, before rolling into Manang village for two nights.

Day 6 - 21st Nov - Manang, Rest Day

Acclimatisation day — and the Charity Ride. A day loop around the valley, this year's centrepiece for the fundraising side of the trip.

Day 7 - 22nd Nov - Manang → Besisahar ~100kms, 6-7 hrs

Back down the valley, altitude falling with every switchback.

Day 8 - 23rd Nov - Besisahar → Kathmandu ~110kms 5-6hrs

Last leg, back to where it started.
